Tip: It’s a good idea to confirm your size with a shoe or boot expert every few years, as the size and shape of your feet can change over time.

Miss Macie Boot Care

The materials in your Miss Macie boots are some of the finest available. To extend the life of your boots, it is very important to perform maintenance on a regular basis. Cleaning your boots to remove dust and dirt and applying a quality leather conditioner, are critical in helping preserve the leather in your boots. Because many leathers differ in nature, some naturally and some due to the tanning process, the methods for proper boot care can vary. While the steps to caring for your boots are relatively easy, click here for  some general suggestions for the different leathers that we offer.

Time-Honored Craftsmanship

Miss Macie boots are handcrafted by artisans who have been perfecting the process used to give each boot the one of a kind vintage style that can be seen in the collection today. Our construction is paramount and consists of 3/4 welt, lemon wood pegs, leather sole and leather component heel.

Lemonwood pegs are carefully hand-hammered into holes cut in the leather and are more malleable than metal, as they expand and contract with moisture at almost an identical rate as leather. This old world bootmaking method is more effective than using a material like brass nails, which would be forced out of the outsole as it swells when exposed to water.

Additionally, lemonwood pegs complete the structure of the boot by holding the insole and outsole together, maintaining the integrity of the hand-lasted instep’s fit.

Glossary

Instep or Vamp

The instep on a boot covers the top of your foot and helps determine whether or not the boot fits. If the instep is too tight, try a wider width. If the instep is too loose, try a narrower width.

Ball

The ball of your foot is where it bends at the widest section. When a boot is too short, the ball of the foot will sit too far forward causing discomfort. The ball of your foot should fit securely within the widest part of the boot.

Heel

A boot will initially slip slightly in the heel (around 1/4 to 1/2 inch). This seemingly extra room is necessary for a proper fit. Over time, the boot’s leather will form to the shape of your foot and the slippage will lessen.

Toe Box

The toe box on a boot surrounds the toes and the front part of the foot. Pressing this area to see where the toes end may work for athletic shoes — but not for boots. This type of pressure could cause permanent damage. To test the toe box area for fit, wiggle your toes — they should be able to move easily inside the boot.
